How to incorporate Panchgavya into your daily routine to ease the transition to increased Vata in this autumn season.
Autumn or Fall is a beautiful time of transition. It coincides with the seasons of Sharad and Hemant in the Hindu calendar. There is a cooling relief from the drastic heat of Summer, but also uncertainty of what Winter will bring. As leaves fall to the ground, a sense of emptiness and exposure arise in nature, as well as in us. The autumn seasons welcomes a predominance of Vata, (air element) and prana (the vital breath, the subtle
essence of life. The qualities of this season are dry, rough, windy, erratic, cool, subtle, and clear. These are also shared by vata dosha which is present in our being.
According to Ayurveda, seasonal changes should be followed by changes in our daily routines such as eating times and specific food types, sleeping and exercise habits, herbal supplements, etc. Our bodies change with the external fluctuations, so we need to maintain balance to live a healthy life.
We will notice the qualities of vata (dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile, and clear (or empty). This translates to dry or rough hair, skin and nails, mobility, or racing of the mind (stress, anxiety, depression, uncontrollable thoughts), and of course Vata is known to cause pains throughout the body. To counteract these qualities, Ayurveda suggest balancing with warmth, oiliness, grounding and nurturing choices. There are many ways
to help balance Vata in your daily routine, but here are a few uses of Panchgavya that will surely ease your way into a happy, healthy season!
